Apple recognized " Lara Croft Go " with one of its 2016 Apple Design Awards.
"Lara Croft Go " was announced in June 2015, during Square Enix's E3 2015 press conference.
A successor set within the " Tomb Raider " franchise, titled " Lara Croft Go ", was released in August 2015.
In addition, the mobile puzzle game " Lara Croft Go " was created to both give a different gameplay experience and evoke classic " Tomb Raider " games.
It is a puzzle-based game in the same fashion as Square Enix Montreal's previous mobile titles, " Hitman Go " and " Lara Croft Go ".
While levels in " Hitman Go " were restricted to the horizontal plane, " Lara Croft Go " adds vertical movement with steps, cliff faces, and climbable terrain incorporated into the level design.
By the same token, predecessors such as " Lara Croft Go " hid treasures in its background such that players would revisit its levels, but " Deus Ex Go " had little to interest players besides its primary mission.
Compared to the previous game, the developers wanted " Lara Croft Go " puzzles to have fewer elements and be completely visible without scrolling, such that the player could see puzzles in their entirety and focus instead on solving for the correct sequence.
Ray Carsillo ( " Electronic Gaming Monthly " ) criticized the game's departure from " Hitman Go " strict board game motif and described " Lara Croft Go " art style as a " cheap . . . knockoff " of the series.
The game follows the format of " Hitman Go " ( 2014 ) and " Lara Croft Go " ( 2015 ), in which Square Enix Montreal distilled major motifs from the games'respective series to fit turn-based, touchscreen, puzzle gameplay.
